The world faces two enormous challenges in the coming decades: feeding a growing global population and addressing climate change. Given the contribution of mining and food production to the drivers of climate change, these two goals could be perceive as in contradiction. There are growing efforts globally to develop sustainable practices that reduce mining and agriculture’s contributions to climate change. The mining industry as a whole has a crucial role to play in this effort. This session will discuss the challenges related to this effort and showcase specific initiatives of the OCP Group, a global leader in phosphate mining and fertilizer production, who is committed to “greening” food security along the entire value chain from mine to fork in Africa and all across the globe.
