The Right Not to Remain Silent: The Truth About Mental Health in The Legal Profession, released on April 30, 2024, is an anthology that challenges the stigma surrounding mental health in law and beyond. Each chapter is a first-person memoir from lawyers, judges and law professors across Canada and covers topics including depression, anxiety, addiction and more.

In honour of mental health month in law please join us for a virtual discussion featuring three of the book’s contributors:

  • Beth Beattie, Senior Counsel, Ministry of Attorney General. Author of the chapter “To Tell .or Not to Tell? That is the Question: Revealing Mental Health Issues at Work.”
  • Michael Herman, Partner and General Counsel, Gowling WLG. Author of the chapter “Depression: My Journey Through Darkness.”
  • Imran Kamal, Crown Counsel for the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. Author of the chapter “Lawyers Can Be Addicts Too.”

You will be invited to submit question(s) after registering for this event. Anonymous questions can be submitted through this link.
