Please join us for an AccessPrivacy workshop focused on Canada’s renewed AI Strategy, in response to the public engagement “sprint” launched by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). This interactive, online event will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).

The workshop will focus on the theme of building safe AI systems and strengthening public trust in AI, one of eight key areas identified by ISED in its framework for the consultation and complementary AI Strategy Task Force.

Led by Adam Kardash and Éloïse Gratton (Co-Chairs of Osler’s National Privacy and Data Management Group), the workshop will consist of a moderated panel discussion featuring a diverse set of experts and thought leaders representing key stakeholders in Canada’s AI ecosystem. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to participate through a Q&A session to share comments and recommendations.

The following AI Task Force members dedicated to the safety and public trust consultation stream have been invited to attend the workshop in an observer capacity: Joelle Pineau (Chief AI Officer, Cohere), Mary Wells (Dean of Engineering, University of Waterloo), Taylor Owen (Founding Director, Center for Media, Technology and Democracy), and Doyin Adeyemi (JD/MBA Candidate, University of Toronto and 1834 Fellow).

Consistent with our approach in past AccessPrivacy workshops, the event will be recorded and the recording submitted to ISED as part of the consultation process. Additional representatives from the AI Task Force and ISED will also be invited to attend in an observer capacity.

As this event is designed to assist the AI Task Force by serving as a thoughtful, interactive forum for public consultation, we encourage stakeholders to actively participate in the discussion and provide feedback (in either English or French). The workshop will also assist organizations and trade associations in framing their own submissions to ISED’s consultation process.
